The Friends of the Oberlin Public Library
Anyone can join the Friends!
The Friends of the Oberlin Public Library is a 501 (c)(3) organization designed to help the library board and staff give Oberlin the best public library and facilities it can achieve.
Become a member of the friends by completing an annual membership form. Memberships start as low as $5 for seniors and students. Members receive a bi-annual newsletter, have access to the pre-sale night of the bi-annual book sale, get special invitations to members programs, and have the satisfaction of knowing that they are making the library a better place for the community and patrons. Membership forms are available at the front desk of the library or by clicking on the link at the bottom of this page.
What do the friends do?
The primary purpose of the Friends of the Oberlin Public Library organization is to financially support special purchases and projects that enhance the services of the library, and offer volunteer and programmatic support. Membership fees are a large part of those special funds, as are the April and October book sales and sales from the book cart.
Here are some things the Friends supported in the last few years: public restrooms renovations, new chairs in the Community Room and reading areas, new computers, the Looped Hearing Assistance Device in the Community Room, the e-materials purchasing fund, writing and summer reading programs, A-Wake for Books family event, and the staff appreciation luncheon.
Friends activities are coordinated by a 12-member board that typically meets on the second Monday of the month. Those interested in serving on the board can mark their interest on their annual membership renewal card or contact the Friends via email at fopl.oberlin@gmail.com.
